Preterm Birth (Akalaprasava)

Preterm Birth (Akalaprasava)

Preterm birth, known in Ayurveda as Akalaprasava, refers to childbirth occurring before the completion of 37 weeks of gestation. It is a significant obstetric concern that can lead to various health risks for the newborn, including respiratory distress, low birth weight, developmental delays, and increased vulnerability to infections. It can also adversely affect the mother’s physical and emotional well-being.

In Ayurveda, Akalaprasava is seen as a result of dosha imbalance, improper nourishment, stress, or inadequate prenatal care. A holistic approach involving dietary regulation, herbal support, mental well-being, and close monitoring is emphasized to prevent and manage preterm labor.
